Društvo za antene i širenje elektromagnetskih valova proučava sljedeće: antene, uključujući analizu, oblikovanje, razvoj, mjerenja i testiranja; zračenje, širenje i međudjelovanje elektromagnetskih valova s diskretnim i kontinuiranim medijima te aplikacije i sustave značajne za antene, širenje i raspoznavanje kao što su primijenjena optika, tehnika milimetarskih i submilimetarskih valova, obrada i kontrola signala, radio astronomija, zemaljska komunikacija i komunikacija stacionirana u svemiru promatrane sa stanovišta zračenja, uključujući bežičnu, mobilnu, satelitsku i telekomunikaciju. Design of robust and flexible wearable antennas

 

koje će održati prof. Anja Skrivervik, PhD, profesor na Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Švicarska.

Abstract :

This presentation shows a new technology for the realization of soft, flexible, and robust antennas intended to operate in a harsh environment. The method is based on the use of a silicon based elastomer, Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for the substrate material, and copper mesh or any kind of perforated metal plates as flexible conductive materials. The initial liquid state of the PDMS allows a lot of freedom in the fabrication process, both from the electrical and mechanical point of view. The electric and mechanic properties of the substrate can be adjusted by loading the PDMS with low or high permittivity inclusions, controlling thus the permittivity and the rigidity. Another good characteristic of the initial low viscosity of PDMS is the possibility to shape the antennas/substrates in in-house fabricated moulds. Copper meshes or perforated metal structures enable good adhesion between the substrate and conductor and improve the overall flexibility. Measured results show good repetitiveness of the substrate samples, both with or without inclusions. Several antenna prototypes are built and characterized. All the antennas are flexible and show good radiation characteristics. The antennas were exposed to tests like washing and bending in order to assess their robustness to environmental changes.

 

CV:

Anja Skrivervik obtained her electrical engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1986, and her PhD from the same institution in 1992, for which she received the Latsis award. After a stay at the university of Rennes as an invited Research Fellow and two years in the industry, she returned part time to EPFL as an Assistant Professor in 1996, and is now a Professeur Titulaire at this institution. Her teaching activities include courses on microwaves and antennas. Her research activities include electrically small antennas, implantable and on body antennas, multifrequency and ultra wideband antennas, numerical techniques for electromagnetics and microwave and millimeter wave MEMS. She is author or co-author of more than 100 scientific publications. She is very active in European collaboration and European projects. She is currently the chairperson of the Swiss URSI, the Swiss representative for COST action 297 and a member of the board of the Center for High Speed Wireless Communications of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.
