Odjel za obradu signala uključuje znanstvena područja poput teorije signala i sustava, teorije i primjene kodiranja, uporabe filtara, prijenosa signala, estimacije, detekcije, analize, prepoznavanja, sinteze te reprodukcije signala digitalnim ili analognim uređajima i tehnikama. Pojam signala uključuje audio i video signale, govor, slike, komunikacije, signal sonara, radara kao i medicinske, glazbene i druge signale.

Predavanje će biti održano u utorak 10. rujna 2013. godine s početkom u 14:00 u Knjižnici ZESOI. Jezik predavanja je engleski, a predvidio trajanje 45 min. Short BIO
Evgeny Belyaev received the Engineer degree in automated systems of information processing  and  control  and  the  Ph.D.  degree  (candidate of  science)  in  technical  sciences  from  the  State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Saint Petersburg,  Russia,  in  2005  and  2009, respectively. He is currently a Researcher with the Institute of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology, Tampere, Finland. His research interests include real-time low-complexity video compression and transmission.

 

Low complexity compression, unequal packet loss protection and rate control in 3-D DWT codec

Abstract: This presentation is dedicated to fast video coding based on three-dimensional discrete wavelet transform. First, we propose a  novel  low-complexity  bit-plane  entropy  coding  of  wavelet subbands, a rate-distortion efficient criterion for skipping  2-D  wavelet  transforms  and  entropy  encoding, and one pass low-complexity rate control. Simulations results show that the proposed video codec has a much lower computational complexity (from 2 to 6 times) for the same quality level compared to the H.264/AVC standard in the low complexity mode (x.264 codec). Finally, we show how the proposed compression scheme can be combined with unequal packet loss protection based on Reed-Solomon codes at the application layer and compare it with an scalable extension of H.264/AVC standard.
