Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i sigalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;
  • Utjecaj komunikacijskih tehnologija na društvo i pojedinca.

Poziv na predavanje: Towards a Future...

Odjel za komunikacije Hrvatske sekcije IEEE i Zavod za telekomunikacije vas poziva na predavanje

Towards a Future Highly Energy-Efficient Global Communication Network: A System Perspective

Predavanje će održati dr.sc. Slaviša Aleksić, Tehničko sveučilište u Beču, u utorak 12. studenog 2013. godine s početkom u 15:15 u Sivoj vijećnici Fakulteta elektrotehnike i računarstva. Jezik predavanja je hrvatski, a predvidio trajanje 45 min. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane, a posebno pozivamo studente diplomskog i poslijediplomskog studija.

Sažetak predavanja i životopis predavača nalazi se u nastavku obavijesti.

Sažetak predavanja:

The information and communication technology (ICT) sector is continuously growing due to the fast penetration of ICT into many areas of business and society. The impressive evolution of ICT is accompanied by fast increase of the ICT energy and carbon footprint. Therefore, energy efficiency is gaining even more importance. Indeed, a lot of effort has recently been put into research and development of energy-efficient devices, systems and networks. However, operational energy consumption is only one of several factors that influence the sustainability of the ICT sector. Other factors that can even play a more significant role are resource consumption associated with production, transportation and disposal of ICT devices, indirect effects that result from the use of software applications and ICT services, and systemic effects that emerge from the medium or long-term changes of behavior.

The talk discusses methods for improving energy efficiency in communication networks and presents a holistic approach that combines network modeling with widely applicable thermodynamic tools to analyze information, energy and entropy flows in order to assess the sustainability of ICT infrastructure.

Životopis predavača:

Slavisa Aleksic received his Dipl.-Ing and Dr. techn. degrees from Vienna University of Technology (TUWIEN) in 1999 and 2004, respectively. Since 1998 he has been with TUWIEN in different positions. In 2011, he was a visiting researcher with the INTEC-IBCN of the Ghent University. Currently, he is a senior researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Telecommunications, TUWIEN.

Slavisa Aleksic is author or co-author of about 100 scientific papers. He has been involved in a number of projects including those funded by the European Union (FP6 and FP7), the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), and in collaboration with ICT companies.

Dr. Aleksic is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a member of the OVE, the MRS, and the IEICE. He serves as a reviewer of numerous reputed journals and book series and as a member of the TPC of a dozen of international conferences. He received several international and national awards and grants such as three best paper awards, the biggest Austrian business plan award i2b (second level), the grant of the Open Society Institute, and the grant of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.
