Hrvatska sekcija IEEE zajedno s Odjelom za elektroenergetiku i Odjelom za upravljačke sustave pozivaju vas na predavanje: 

„Metaheuristic Optimization Algorithms and Application in Power System“

koje će održati Husam Shaheen, profesor sa Sveučilišta u Tishrenu, Siriji, višegodišnji istraživač Sveučilišta znanosti i tehnologije u Huazhongu, Kini, te gostujući istraživač na Fakultetu elektrotehnike i računarstva Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Predavanje će se održati u utorak, 8. ožujka 2022. godine u 10:00 h u Sivoj vijećnici FER-a.

Predvidivo trajanje predavanja je 60 minuta, a odvit će se na engleskom jeziku. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane, a posebno pozivamo studente.

Summary

One of the main technologies in the electricity-driven modern civilization is power system. Power system is a multidisciplinary field with a variety of nonlinear and complex problems demanding multiple approaches and methods to solve them. From planning to operation, optimal solutions are consistently sought in power system. Metaheuristic algorithms are global optimization techniques for solving real-life complex problems. They use search experience intelligently to explore and exploit the search space in a randomized manner. In this presentation, an overview of the state-of-the-art of metaheuristic algorithms will be given. Classification, basic concepts, pseudocode, and main features of metaheuristic algorithms will be discussed as well. In addition, a few application examples of evolutionary and swarm-based algorithms in power system will be presented. Some guidelines on control parameter selection and tuning of those algorithms will also be provided. Finally, this presentation will conclude with a future possible application and suggestions.

Biography

Husam I. Shaheen received his MSc. and Ph.D. Degrees both in electrical engineering (Power system and its automation) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, Hubei, China, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. He is an Associate Professor at Tishreen University, Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Department of Electrical Power Engineering, Latakia, Syria since 2019. Dr. Shaheen started his academic work with the department of electrical power engineering at Tishreen University in 2008. In 2015, he joined the ISEC Program at Xiamen University of Technology (XMUT), Xiamen, Fujian, China for three years. In 2018, he returned to work with Tishreen University. Dr. Shaheen is a supervisor of several Ph.D. and MSc. students in electrical power engineering. Topics include AI and GIS application in reliability and security of power systems, Fuzzy logic application in Microgrid control, Improvement of PV system performance with AI application, etc. He has been appointed as a General Chair and TPC member of several international conferences. Dr. Shaheen is a reviewer of dozens of different international journals and hundreds of international conferences in his research fields.

Research Interests: Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in power Systems, Computational Intelligence Techniques and their applications in power system, GIS and GPS applications in power Systems, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and their Control design (particularly UPFC), Renewable Energies, Power System Analysis and Control.
