Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;

"Quality of Experience in the Era of Immersive Networked Multimedia Services"

koje će održati prof. dr. sc. Lea Skorin-Kapov, FER, petak 02. srpnja 2021. godine, od 09:30-10:30 putem platforme Zoom (poveznica, Meeting ID: 857 9776 8704, Passcode: 443810)

Predavanje je organizirano u sklopu konferencije 16th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL 2021).

Predviđeno trajanje predavanja je 60 min. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane a posebno pozivamo studente!

Sažetak predavanja:
Rapid developments in the telecommunications and networking communities, currently centered around the migration towards 5G architectures, are paving the way towards new service delivery opportunities. A wide range of advanced multimedia applications are expected to become an integral part of people’s everyday lives, with examples including immersive applications, such as virtual, augmented and mixed reality, gaming, and 360-degree video streaming, requiring unprecedented high access speeds, fast rendering, and in certain cases ultra-low latency. Applications leveraging AR/VR technologies will likely go beyond early adopters such as entertainment and gaming, to enhancing social experiences, healthcare, education, or being used in professional and industrial use cases. Given the complexity of such services, the availability of new hardware appearing on the market, and new application domains, the research community is faced with the challenges of exploring new methodologies, models, and metrics to understand and manage the end user Quality of Experience (QoE). QoE research has thus received much attention over the past years and has become a prominent issue addressed by network, service, and content providers. In this talk, we will discuss key challenges related to assessing and modeling QoE for emerging immersive multimedia services.  We will then address the next logical step of how to exploit such models to monitor and manage QoE, both from an application and network provider perspective. We will give a brief overview of recent and ongoing standardization activities related to media compression and transmission, and look at the role of 5G enabling technologies in supporting networked immersive media applications. Finally, we will discuss the exciting vision of future media applications based on Holographic-Type Communication, and the demands imposed on future networking technologies going beyond 5G.

Biografija predavača:
Lea Skorin-Kapov is a Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and head of the Multimedia Quality of Experience Research Lab (MUEXlab). Her research interests include Quality of Experience (QoE) modeling of multimedia applications, QoE monitoring of encrypted video traffic, cross-layer negotiation and management of QoS/QoE, and resource allocation and optimization mechanisms. She was previously employed as a senior research engineer in the Research and Development Center of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Croatia. She has published over 100 scientific papers, and serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management and Springer’s Multimedia Systems journal, and has served as Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, and ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications. She is currently serving as Chapter chair of the IEEE Communications Society —Croatia Chapter.
