Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;

"IoT via 5G Satellite Systems"

koje će održati Giovanni Giambene, Sveučilište u Sieni, Italija u četvrtak 1. srpnja 2021. godine, od 09:30-10:30 sati putem platforme Webex.

Predavanje je organizirano u sklopu programa IEEE ComSoc Virtual Distinguished Lecturer Program i u sklopu konferencije 16th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL 2021).

Zainteresirane sudionike molimo da se registriraju putem sljedeće poveznice, a najkasnije do 30. 06. 2021.:

https://events.vtools.ieee.org/event/register/274894

Poveznica za spajanje na platformu Webex bit će poslana naknadno.

Predviđeno trajanje predavanja je 60 min. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane a posebno pozivamo studente!

Više o predavanju i o predavaču pročitajte u opširnijem sadržaju obavijesti.

Sažetak predavanja:
One of the key drivers for next-generation mobile communications is the support of the Internet of Things (IoT), with billions of objects connected to the Internet and very low latency. The 5G technology will support the realization of smart cities, smart environments, and big data applications. Within the 5G framework, the terrestrial services can be augmented with the development of novel mega-LEO satellite constellations. This lesson investigates the integration of 5G satellite technology and IoT, considering different architectures and sensor technologies as NB-IoT, LoRa, and SigFox. These architectures will also envisage drones/UAVs to collect massive data from remote fields and the possibility to connect via 5G satellite access to the Internet. Applications are possible in fire alarm detection, smart agriculture, animal tracking, plant disease control, environmental monitoring, just to name a few.

Biografija predavača:
Giovanni Giambene (h index = 25 Googlescholar, 18 SCOPUS, 14 ISI WoS) was born in Florence, Italy, in 1966. He received the Dr. Ing. degree in Electronics in 1993 and the Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications and Informatics in 1997, both from the University of Florence, Italy. In 1999, he joined the Department of Information Engineering and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Siena, Italy, where at present he is associate professor. From 2000 to 2003, he contributed to the EU FP5 “Personalised Access to Local Information and services for tourists” (PALIO) IST Project. He was vice-Chair of the COST 290 Action (2004-2008), entitled “Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks” (Wi-QoST). He participated in the projects: (i) the SatNEx I & II network of excellence (EU FP6, 2004-2009) and SatNEx III&IV (ESA 2010-2018) as work package leader on radio access techniques, cross-layer air interface design, and network coding techniques for satellite systems; (ii) the EU FP7 Coordination Action “Road mapping technology for enhancing security to protect medical & genetic data” (RADICAL) as work package leader on security and privacy; (iii) the COST Action IC0906 (2010-2014) “Wireless Networking for Moving Objects” (WiNeMO) as national representative; (iv) the EU FP7 Coordination Action RESPONSIBILITY coordination action. At present he is involved in the ESA IIT ROMANTICA project and the ESA SatNEX V project. Giambene is IEEE senior member. Since 2015, he is editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. Since 2019, he is editor of IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine. He has published the following books: G. Giambene, “Queuing Theory and Telecommunications: Networks and Telecommunications”, Springer, April 2014 (2nd edition available with solution manual online - 2014; see also sample pages here); G. Giambene (Ed.), “Resource Management in Satellite Networks: Optimization and Cross-Layer Design”, Springer, April 2007. His research interests deal with wireless and satellite networking, cross-layer air interface design, IoT for 5G, transport layer performance, privacy and security for medical data.
