Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;
  • Utjecaj komunikacijskih tehnologija na društvo i pojedinca.

Hrvatska sekcija IEEE i Odjel za komunikacije vas pozivaju na predavanje

Green Cellular Networks: A Survey, Some Research Issues and Challenges

koje će održati prof. Vijay K. Bhargava, uvaženi profesor s University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Kanada koji je trenutno President-Elect, IEEE Communications Society.

Predavanje će biti održano u utorak 27. rujna 2011. godine s početkom u 16:15 u Sivoj vijećnici Fakulteta elektrotehnike i računarstva. Jezik predavanja je engleski, a predvidio trajanje 45 min. Sažetak predavanja i životopis predavača nalazi se u nastavku obavijesti.

Summary

In this talk, we present techniques to enable green communications in future generation of wireless systems that will rely on cooperation and cognition to meet increasing demand of high data rate. So far, achieving high data rate has been the primary focus of research in cooperative and CR systems, without much consideration of energy efficiency. However, many of these techniques significantly increase system complexity and energy consumption. Escalating energy costs and environmental concerns have already created an urgent need for more energy-efficient “green” wireless communications. Therefore, we need to design energy-efficient solutions for cooperative and cognitive networks, which will potentially drive the future generation of wireless communication. We focus on several important topics that are crucial towards reducing the energy consumption of the cognitive and cooperative networks. These topics include efficient base station redesign, heterogeneous network deployment, green communications via cognitive radio, cooperative relays to deliver green communications, and energy efficient cognitive cooperative networks.

Biography

Vijay Bhargava, an IEEE volunteer for three decades, is Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where he served as Department Head during 2003-2008. He served as the Founder and President of "Binary Communications Inc." (1983-2000) and has provided consulting services to several companies and government agencies.

Vijay Bhargava is a co-author (with D. Haccoun, R. Matyas and P. Nuspl) of Digital Communications by Satellite (New York: Wiley: 1981) which was translated in Chinese and Japanese. He is a co-editor (with S. Wicker) of Reed Solomon Codes and their Applications (IEEE Press: 1994), a co-editor (with V. Poor, V. Tarokh and S. Yoon) of Communications, Information and Network Security (Kluwer: 2003), a co-editor (with E. Hossain) of Cognitive Wireless Communication Networks (Springer: 2007), a co-editor (with E. Hossain and D.I Kim) of Cooperative Wireless Communications Networks, (Cambridge University Press: 2011) and a co-editor (with E. Hossain and G. Fettweis) of Green Radio Communication Networks to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2012.

Vijay Bhargava has served on the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society and the IEEE Communications Society. He has served as an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications. He played a major role in the creation of the IEEE Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) and IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, for which he served as the editor-in-chief during 2007, 2008 and 2009. During 2010, he served as IEEE Communications Society Director of Journals. He is a past President of the IEEE Information Theory Society. Vijay Bhargava has been elected to serve as IEEE Communications Society President-Elect during 2011 and will serve as its President during 2012 and 2013.
