Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;
  • Utjecaj komunikacijskih tehnologija na društvo i pojedinca.

Predavanje "Optimizing sensor...

IEEE Communication Society Croatia Chapter i IEEE Croatia Section pozivaju Vas na predavanje prof. dr. sc. Karla Aberera, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Švicarska, s temom:

Optimizing sensor data processing for environmental monitoring applications

Sažetak i biografiju predavača pročitajte u nastavku obavijesti.

Sažetak predavanja:

The emergence of novel sensing devices and wireless sensor network technologies provides a whole new opportunity for global environmental studies and environment-related decision making. In the recent years we developed in the multidisciplinary Swiss Experiment project a large scale platform, to support sensor data processing for field investigations of environmental processes. In this talk we will provide an overview of the problems and solutions for sensor data processing that we have addressed throughout this project. We will first discuss our approach to developing a middleware for distributed data stream processing and the optimization problems we have encountered. Then we discuss the problem of supporting models derived from sensor data and used for various purposes such as outlier detection, interpolation and visualization. Since these models rely frequently on complex computations their support can greatly benefit from optimization techniques and vice versa these models can be exploited in different ways to more efficiently process large sensor data sets. Finally we discuss metadata generation, processing and search for data streams which is key for providing context to properly interpret sensor data and make it thus useable for practical applications.

Kratka biografija:

Karl Aberer is a Professor for Distributed Information Systems at the School of Computer and Communication Sciences, EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland, and director of the Swiss National Centre for Mobile Information and Communication Systems (NCCR-MICS). His research interests are on decentralization and self-organization in information systems with applications in peer-to-peer search, overlay networks, trust management and mobile and sensor networks. Before joining EPFL in 2000 he was leading the research division on open adaptive information systems at the Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute (IPSI) of GMD in Germany, which he joined in 1992. He studied mathematics at ETH Zurich where he also completed his Ph.D. in theoretical computer science in 1991. From 1991 to 1992 he was postdoctoral fellow at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) at the University of California, Berkeley. He is member of several journal editorial boards, including VLDB Journal, and conference steering committees.
