Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;
  • Utjecaj komunikacijskih tehnologija na društvo i pojedinca.

Web sjedište matičnog društva IEEE Communications Society je www.comsoc.org.

Trenutačno postoji jedan studentski ogranak Odjela za komunikacije, pridružen Studentskom ogranku Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Najava predavanja: Martin Rajman...

IEEE ComSoc Croatia Chapter i Zavod za telekomunikacije FER-a pozivaju Vas na predavanje:

Some of the current research projects at the EPFL Center for Global Computing: the Internet Patrolling project, and the D-rank project

Martin Rajman

School of Computer and Communication Sciences,

Dr. Martin Rajman je voditelj centra Center for Global Computing koji okuplja istraživačke grupe sa sveučilišta EPFL, School of Computer and Communication Sciences radi poticanja interdisciplinarne suradnje i istraživanja u području Interneta i distribuiranih sustava. Više informacija o sadržaju predavanja i govorniku pročitajte u nastavku obavijesti.

Sažetak predavanja:

The goal of the talk is to present two of the ongoing research projects carried out at the EPFL Center for Global Computing (http://globalcomputing.epfl.ch) under the speaker's supervision, the Internet Patrolling project, and the D-rank project.

- The Internet Patrolling project:

The International Counterfeiting Coalition estimates that counterfeiting caused over $600 billion losses to companies worldwide in 2006. The Swiss economy alone suffered in that year $1.6 bilion losses. All the institutions involved in the control and prosecution of counterfeiting agree that the number of cases and their economic relevance has rocketed up in the last years, mainly due to the use of the internet to distribute the counterfeited products. In this context, the Internet Patrolling Project aims at providing a tool to automatically extract as much information as possible from several Internet resources, in order to identify and initiate legal actions against counterfeiters affecting their business.

- The D-rank project:

Document ranking for scientific publications involves a variety of specialized resources (e.g. author or citation indexes) that are usually difficult to use within standard general purpose search engines that usually operate on large-scale heterogeneous document collections for which the required specialized resources are not always available for all the documents present in the collections. Integrating such resources into specialized information retrieval engines is therefore important to cope with community-specific user expectations that strongly influence the perception of relevance within the considered community. In this perspective, the D-rank project aims at extending the notion of ranking with various methods exploiting different types of bibliographic knowledge that represent a crucial resource for measuring the relevance of scientific publications.

Kratka biografija:

Since 1996, M. Rajman is senior scientist at the Artificial Intelligence laboratory of EPFL, the Swiss Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne, where he is in charge of the of the development of a research and teaching activity in the general domain of Natural Language Processing. His research work focuses on Vector Semantics, Probabilistic Syntax, Distributed Information Retrieval, and Dialogue based Multimodal Interfaces.

Since 2003, M. Rajman has also been appointed as Director of the EPFL Center for Global Computing (CGC), an association of research groups and laboratories of the EPFL School of Computer and Communication Sciences aiming at fostering interdisciplinary research in the general area of Internet computing and distributed systems.
