Security in Black and White and Image Forensic
+ Research Opportunities in NTU, Singapore with SINGA Scholarships

koje će održati Prof. Alex Chichung Kot, IEEE Fellow, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, u četvrtak, 21. veljače 2008., u 14 sati, u Sivoj vijećnici na Fakultetu elektrotehnike i računarstva Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Unska 3. Predavanje će biti održano na engleskom jeziku, u trajanju od 60 minuta. Sažetak predavanja i informacija o predavaču nalaze se u opširnijoj obavijesti.

Summary: With the advances in digital technology, manufacturing cost of digital cameras, mobile phones and PDAs is dropping and digital broadcasting is becoming mature. The transmission of digital media through internet is getting very popular. Not only multi-level images, video and audio are in digital form, binary images are also digitized in the applications including legal documents, digital books, contracts, electronic drawings and biometrics data.

This lecture provides a review on the latest development in data hiding for authentication in binary images. In particular, security in black and white, an emerging technology for the digital media will be delivered. Different data hiding techniques for binary images using pattern based, contour based, and transform domain based will be discussed and analyzed. Distortion measure scheme is proposed to match with the human visual perception. Data hiding technology combined with secured authentication techniques will be discussed for secured media transmission and tracking. Privacy in biometric data and image forensic will also be discussed in the lecture.

A brief introduction of the research activities in the School of EEE, NTU and the opportunities in getting SINGA Scholarships to pursue PhD degree in NTU will be given at the end of the talk.

Speaker: Prof. Kot has been with the Division of Information Engineering at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore since 1991 as Head of the Division since 1996 for eight years. He is currently Professor and the Associate Chair\Vice-Dean (research) for the School of EEE, overseeing the research activities for the School with 190 faculty members. He has published extensively with over 150 technical papers in the areas of signal processing for communication, biometrics recognition, data-hiding, staganalysis and image forensics for digital media.

Dr. Kot served as Associate Editor for the IEEE Trans. on Signal Processing; Circuits and Systems for Video Technology; Circuits and Systems Part I & II. He is currently Editor for the EURASIP Journal of Advances in Signal Processing and the IEEE Trans. on Multimedia. He served as Guest Editor for the Special Issues for the IEEE Trans. on CSVT and JASP. He is currently the Technical Committee member of the IEEE CAS VSP and SP IMDSP. He has served the IEEE in various capacities such as the General Co-Chair for the 2004 IEEE ICIP. He received the Best Teacher of The Year Award at NTU and the Microsoft MSRA Award. He served as the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer and is a Fellow of IEEE.
