This talk provides a high level overview of the standardization activities in the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee and a brief history. Founded in 1980 and responsible for the development of the key datacommunications standards used for today's ubiquitous global Internet infrastructure; IEEE 802.3 Ethernet and IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs (aka Wi-Fi). It remains extremely active with over 1000 volunteers from all over the globe contributing their time and expertise to continually evolve the standards to meet emerging market needs.

Short Bio
Mr. Nikolich is a successful entrepreneur, founder, angel investor and board member of companies in early stages of development. He enables development of emerging technologies, technical standards, intellectual property, and invests in early-stage ventures focused on the data communications and broadband industries.
He is Chairman Emeritus of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC). From 2001 to 2024 he served as Chairman of the LMSC, overseeing technical standards development for wired (e.g., Ethernet), wireless (e.g., Wi-Fi), and bridged networks. He is a 2005 IEEE Fellow for leadership in enabling ubiquitous broadband internet access and associated standards and recipient of the prestigious 2025 IEEE Steinmetz Award for leadership in the development and advancement of global IEEE 802 network standards. He has served on the IEEE Standards Association Board of Governors and Standards Board, as well as Chairman of the IEEE Technical Activities Committee on Standards, and IEEE Board of Directors Finance Committee.
Mr. Nikolich is the founder and owner of Nikolich Advisors LLC, holds several patents and has a BS in Electrical Engineering, a BS in Biology and a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y (currently known as NYU Tandon School of Engineering).
