Odjel za teoriju i primjenu mikrovalova

Područje interesa Društva za teoriju i primjenu mikrovalova je teorija, primjena i tehnologija mikrovalova, valovoda, bežične tehnologije koji se odnosi na korištenje komponenti, uređaja, prijenosnih linija i sustava vezanih uz generiranje, modulaciju, demodulaciju, upravljanje, prijenos, detekciju kao i efekte elektromagnetskih signala. Uključuje znanstvene, tehničke i industrijske aktivnosti. Teorija i tehnika mikrovalova primjenjuje fizička i matematička počela u analizi struktura dimenzija koje predstavljaju značajan dio valne duljine ili kada se trebaju uzeti u obzir propagacijski aspekti.

Antene za lokalizaciju stvari i osoba

Abstract: This talk focuses on two distinct projects: one on localization of blood bags inside hospital storage cabinets and other on localization of people and subsequent posture determination. Both projects where developed in the scope of the Author’s PhD Thesis on antennas for indoor localization systems.

Blood bag inventory and localization is extremely important having in mind serious consequences that erroneous blood transfusion brings. In this project various antennas and a full prototype system based on Ultra-high Frequency Radio-frequency Identification (UHF RFID) is developed as a solution for real-time inventory and localization of blood bags. Taking advantage of the chosen technology this system has potential to be low-cost and easily implementable in real hospital environments. Besides the component description the talk will also include a short demonstrational video and lessons learned section on how to organize, lead, and finish a six month project for a student competition.

With the ever ageing population it is predicted that more and more elderly will have to live alone in their homes. With the development of remote wireless healthcare this will be possible. In order to detect if a person needs our help it would be useful to also know their location and posture inside the home. This is especially important in detection of accidental falls and fast reaction of medical personnel in those cases.  As a solution for this an on-body Ultrawideband (UWB) antenna was developed and a demonstrational system was used to prove that the posture identification is indeed possible. Three distinct postures – standing, sitting, and lying down on ground – where distinguished with more than 20 cm of localization difference between the body postures.

Author’s Bio: Andela Zaric received the BSc degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the MSc degree in Information and Communication Technology from Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia, in 2009 and 2011, respectively.

 She is currently finishing her PhD degree at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal and is a researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). Her research interests include UWB and RFID antennas for identification and localization.

Ms. Zaric received the first prize in the 2014 AP-S Student Design Contest together with three team colleagues for designing and building a RFID-based Smart Blood Stock System. In 2013 she also received a travel and attendance grant for European School of Antennas course “Antennas and Propagation for Body-Centric Wireless Communications”.
