The talk focuses on the strong need for IoT objects to collaborate to share services and information even if belonging to different platforms. The advantages of an effective collaboration among devices belonging to different domains are huge but the issues to be addressed are challenging. Two possible approaches are presented. The first relies on the use of the social networking technologies so that the objects mimic the human behaviour when interacting with other peers, i.e., they create social relationships among them and enquire friends when looking for information and for getting information about the reliability of the other peers. The second one is based on the creation of local cluster of objects in an opportunistic way, which joint the forces to provide local services for the provisioning of local sensing services. A Game theory based approach is used to stimulate the collaboration among objects to provide services to the different running applications.
Luigi Atzori is Associate Professor at the University of Cagliari (Italy), where he leads the laboratory of Multimedia and Communications with around 15 affiliates (http://mclab.diee.unica.it). His research interests are in multimedia network, with emphasis on multimedia QoE management, and architectures for IoT platforms. He is the coordinator of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network on QoE for multimedia services (http://qoenet-itn.eu). He is member of the steering committee for the IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, member of the editorial board of the IEEE IoT, the Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks and the Elsevier Digital Communications and Networks journals.
