Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;
  • Utjecaj komunikacijskih tehnologija na društvo i pojedinca.

Web sjedište matičnog društva IEEE Communications Society je www.comsoc.org.

Trenutačno postoji jedan studentski ogranak Odjela za komunikacije, pridružen Studentskom ogranku Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Sažetak:

Communication networks are witnessing the architectural shift, which manifests through employment of the software-defined networking (SDN) and network virtualization paradigms. Seen as key enablers for network evolution towards the fifth generation (5G), SDN relies on a separated control plane with SDN controllers to set up packet forwarding in the underlying network devices, while network virtualization allows creation of multiple virtual networks that run on top of the same infrastructure, but which may offer different network functions and transport options tailored to specific requirements. Network hypervisors support the latter innovation. SDN-based networks with such a virtualization feature call for customized design, which is of a particular importance for the control plane resilience to different failure types. In this talk, main concepts behind SDN and network virtualization will be outlined, followed by recent research efforts of the “Resilient controller and hypervisor placement for future communication networks (RESyST)” project in that area. More specifically, cost aspects introduced by the network hypervisors will be described, different strategies for protecting the control plane from possible failures will be discussed, while also presenting initial results on the control plane availability and cost analysis with respect to these strategies.

Biografija:

Ognjen Dobrijević is an assistant professor at the Department of Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2018 Ognjen was a visiting professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, while in 2013 and 2014 he visited Karlstad University in Sweden as a guest researcher. His main research interests are in the fields of novel networking paradigms and the associated technologies, such as software-defined networking and network virtualization, as well as of improving quality of multimedia communication services.
Ognjen Dobrijević has been involved in more than dozen projects, in collaboration with industry, international research projects and national research projects. Ognjen currently leads two research projects. One is “Resilient controller and hypervisor placement for future communication networks (RESyST)”, which is financed by the Unity through Knowledge Fund (UKF), while the other one is “Towards Reliable Distributed Control Plane for Programmable Communication Networks (reCREATE)”, which is financed by the Croatian Science Foundation. Ognjen has co-authored more than 25 scientific and professional papers for international journals, conferences and books. He is a member of the IEEE and ACM associations.
