Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;

Managed dependability in interacting systems

Predavanje će održati prof. dr. sc. Poul Heegaard, Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology, Norveška, u utorak 21. travnja 2015. godine s početkom u 15:15 sati u Bijeloj vijećnici FER-a. Jezik predavanja je engleski, a predvidio trajanje 45 min. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane, a posebno pozivamo studente preddiplomskog i diplomskog studija.

Sažetak predavanja i životopis predavača nalaze se u nastavku obavijesti.

Sažetak:

The digital ICT infrastructure is a complex system-of-systems in itself, but also in interaction with other critical infrastructures such as water distributions, transportation (e.g. Intelligent Transport Systems) and Smart Power Grid control. These systems are sometimes referred to as "digital ecosystems", and are characterized by self-organization, autonomous subsystems, continuous evolution, scalability and sustainability, providing both economic and social value. Services delivered involve a chain of stakeholders that share the responsibility providing robust and secure services with stable and good performance. The interacting relationship between the stakeholders is agreed upon in Service Level Agreements (SLAs), which gives guarantees on the non-functional properties of the services, including QoS, QoE, security, and dependability.

The talk will discuss these issues with particular focus on the dependability issues that appear in Software Defined Networking, challenges related to management of QoS and dependability over multiple domains with uncoordinated operation centers in the different domains, and the management and modeling of QoE when taking longitudinal effects into account.  The talk will also include a brief presentation of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Department of Telematics (http://www.item.ntnu.no), and the NTNU QUAM research lab (Quantitative modeling of dependability and performance, http://www.item.ntnu.no/research/quam/start ).

Životopis:

Poul E. Heegaard received his Siv.ing. degree (M.S.E.E. ) in 1989 from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), Trondheim, Norway. He was awarded the degree Dr. Ing. (PhD) from NTH, University of Trondheim in 1998. The title of the thesis is: "Efficient simulation of network performance by importance sampling".

Heegaard was Associate Professor (2006-2010) and since 2010 he has been Professor at the Department of Telematics, NTNU. He was the coordinator of the Network Research area from 2004-2009, and 2009-2013 he was the head of the department. Now he is the Head of NTNU QUAM-lab (http://www.item.ntnu.no/research/quam/start, established in 2015).  From 1999 - 2009 he was Senior Research Scientist at Telenor R&I, and before that a Research Scientist and Senior Scientist at SINTEF Telecom and Informatics (1989-1999). In 1994-1998 he was a research scholar at Department of Telematics, NTNU, and in 1999 he became an adjunct associate professor at the same department. From 2007-2008 he was a visiting researcher at Duke University, Durham, NC, USA.

His research interests cover performance, dependability and survivability evaluation and management of communication systems, and communication system interacting with other technical infrastructures such as Smart Grids. Special interests include monitoring, routing and management in dynamic networks. He has developed a java-based traffic generator called GenSyn. He has worked on rare event simulation techniques, and on distributed, autonomous and adaptive management and routing in communication networks and services. Heegaard has been active in several national (Norwegian Research Council) and international (EU-IST, COST, Celtic) research projects and collaborations.

Heegaard is the author/co-author of a number of research papers, reports and lecture notes. He has given numerous tutorials and talks in national and international meetings and conferences. He has been part of international organization committees (e.g. General Chair for RESIM 2012, local chair for Networking 2014), program committees (e.g. DSN 2011).
