Odjel za komunikacije

Odjel za komunikacije obuhvaća znanost, tehnologiju i aplikacije koje podržavaju prijenos i organizaciju informacija različitih vrsta medija i formata kroz komunikacijske mreže i kanale. Navedeno može uključivati:

  • Arhitekturu, kontrolu, upravljanje, učinkovitost i primjene elektroničkih, optičkih i bežičnih komunikacijskih mreža;
  • Tehnologije i servisi za postojeće mreže i mreže u nastajanju te Internet;
  • Teorije i metode modulacije, detekcije, kodiranja i signalizacije kroz kanale, oblikovanje i vođenje mreža s komutacijom paketa i mreža s komutacijom kanala;
  • Sustave za komutiranje i usmjeravanje;
  • Komunikacijske protokole, programsku podršku i programe koji djeluju između aplikacije i mreže;
  • Metode za postizanje kvalitete i pouzdanosti usluge;
  • Komunikacijske sposobnosti terminala, uređaja i informacijskih sustava;
  • Komunikacijske standarde i specifikacije;
  • Utjecaj komunikacijskih tehnologija na društvo i pojedinca.

Web sjedište matičnog društva IEEE Communications Society je www.comsoc.org.

Trenutačno postoji jedan studentski ogranak Odjela za komunikacije, pridružen Studentskom ogranku Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Predavanje: Dr. Gabriel Jakobson...

Odjel za komunikacije Hrvatske sekcije IEEE, Hrvatska sekcija IEEE i Zavod za telekomunikacije FER-a vas pozivaju na predavanje iz programa Distinguished Lecturer/Speaker Program

"Introduction to Situation Management of Complex Networked Operations"

Dr. Gabriel Jakobson (IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer)

Predavanje će biti održano u utorak 4. rujna 2012. godine s početkom u 15:15 u Sivoj vijećnici Fakulteta elektrotehnike i računarstva. Jezik predavanja je engleski, a predvidio trajanje 60 min. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane, a posebno pozivamo studente diplomskog i poslijediplomskog studija!

Sažetak predavanja i životopis predavača nalaze se u nastavku obavijesti.

Sažetak predavanja

Many real-time operations of complex systems and processes are characterized by significant number of inter-acting operational components, high mobility of the components, increasing dynamic and often hardly predictable situations. Such systems include tactical net-centric battlefield operations, large-scale network management systems, disaster and emergency management systems, intelligent transportation systems, cyber and physical infrastructure monitoring and protection systems, and many others.  The operational characteristics and goals set for those systems require comprehensive and effective methods of situation management. Situation Management (SM) is as a synergistic goal-directed process of situation awareness, situation control, and prediction of potential future situations. The essential components of SM include sensing and intelligence gathering, information fusion and event correlation, modelling of the domain entities and their inter-relations, detecting and reasoning about the situations, threat situation prediction, and action planning affecting the situations. Our interest will be mostly on cognitive (intelligent) situation management, i.e. on SM, which is associated with the meaning of situations, the intelligent methods of reasoning about the situations, and actions planning. In order to exhibit such intelligent capabilities, the systems should possess fairly elaborated knowledge about the domain. This presentation gives an overview of the concepts and technology of situation management, presents practical solutions and systems how to architect and deploy situation management systems, and analyses several practical applications and their effectiveness.

Kratka biografija

Dr. Gabriel Jakobson is the VP and Chief Scientist at Altusys Corp., a consulting firm specializing in the development of intelligent situation management technologies for defence and cyber security applications. During his more than 20 years tenure at Verizon he had increasing responsibilities of leading advanced database, expert systems, artificial intelligence, and telecommunication network management programs. He has authored a monograph and more than 100 technical papers and is principal author of 5 US patents in situation management and event correlation. He received PhD degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Cybernetics, Estonia. Dr. Jakobson holds the Honorary Degree of Doctor Honorius Causa from the Tallinn Technical University, Estonia. Dr. Jakobson is the Chair of the International Conference on Cognitive Methods of Situation Awareness and Decision Support (CogSIMA) 2011-2012, TPC co-Chair of the International Conference on Cyber Conflict 2012 (CyCon 2012, TPC co-Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications – ICC (2010-2013).  Dr. Jakobson is the co-chair of the Tactical Communications and Operations Technical Committee of IEEE ComSoc and chair of the IEEE ComSoc Sub-Committee on Situation Management. Dr. Jakobson is Distinguished IEEE ComSoc Lecturer and has lectured extensively in Japan, Korea, Australia, China, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Denmark, Russia, and many other countries.
