Područje interesa Odjela obuhvaća sva područja biomedicinskog inženjerstva kao interdisciplinarnog područja primjene inženjerskih znanja u medicini i biologiji. Rad članova Odjela uključuje primjenu matematičkih metoda, eksperimentalne postupke, razvoj novih tehnologija te praktične kliničke aplikacije. Odjel također provodi obrazovne i profesionalne aktivnosti te suradnju s gospodarstvom.

Biography
Ofer Barnea is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University. He earned a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Tel Aviv University and PhD degree in Biomedical engineering from Drexel University in 1978. In 1989 he joined Tel Aviv University and was among the founders of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. From 2001 to 2005 and from 2011 – 2013 he was the Chairman of the department. His research interests include biomedical measurements and instrumentation, cardiovascular system dynamics and cardiac assistance; modeling of physiological systems; and analysis of biological signals. He has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Barnea is was the Director of the Ela Kodesz Institute for Biomedical Physics and Engineering for six years (2007 – 2013) and was the chairman of the Israeli Chapter of the IEEE EMBS. He has over 30 years of experience in Biomedical Engineering. He consults to the Medical Devices industry and was also the founder of several Medical Devices companies.
