Roberta Sobota, Western University, Kanada, "Implantable Technology and the Human Body - Creating the Cyborg Race".

Predavanje će se održati 9. travnja 2013. godine u Sivoj vijećnici Fakulteta elektrotehnike i računarstva, Unska 3.

Sažetak predavanja i kratku biografiju predavača možete vidjeti u nastavku obavijesti.

Abstract:

The relentless pace of technological development that started at the dawn of humanity is, if anything, accelerating. Indeed, the technology itself, starting with unlocking the secret of firemaking, defined the humans the way we are: we have learned how to build ever smaller non-living things, we have learned and keep learning how the living things operate at the molecular level, and now we are learning how to merge the non-living and living functions. At the beginning of the 21st century, we are heading into a new kind of technological revolution. Only, this time the convergence of nanotechnologies and neuroscience is set to lead the next wave of technology, which is expected to influence our lives more than any of the previous revolutions. Undoubtedly, we are on the road to creating the new race - the cyborgs.

In this talk we take a look at some of the already existing technologies, and at some of the possible scenarios for the human future that is influenced by our relationship with the technology.

Short biography:

Robert Sobot: received the B.Sc. degree in engineering physics from the University of Belgrade, former Yugoslavia, in 1989, and the M.A.Sc. and the Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Simon Fraser University, Canada, in 1996 and 2005 respectively. From 1996 to 2001 he was Team Leader with PMC-Sierra Inc., Canada, where he was working on analog IC design. Prior to 1994 he worked for number of companies in Europe and North America on various projects including MEMS pressure sensors, silicon IR detectors and radio controlled systems.

In 2011 he authored a textbook "Wireless Communication Electronics - Introduction to RF Circuits and Design Techniques", and established the Implantable System Laboratory at Western University Canada. In 2012 he was promoted to Associate Professor at Western. During 2012/13 he is Visiting Researcher at Université Pierre et Marie Curie at Sorbonne (LiP6).
