Odjel za tehniku u medicini i biologiji

Područje interesa Odjela obuhvaća sva područja biomedicinskog inženjerstva kao interdisciplinarnog područja primjene inženjerskih znanja u medicini i biologiji. Rad članova Odjela uključuje primjenu matematičkih metoda, eksperimentalne postupke, razvoj novih tehnologija te praktične kliničke aplikacije. Odjel također provodi obrazovne i profesionalne aktivnosti te suradnju s gospodarstvom.

Predavanje "Brain-computer...

Hrvatsko društvo za medicinsku i biološku tehniku (HDMBT) i Odjel za tehniku u medicini i biologiji (EMB18) Hrvatske sekcije IEEE pozivaju vas na predavanje

"Brain-computer interfaces:
Can we teach computers to read our minds?"

koje će održati doktorski kandidat Filip Melinščak sa Sveučilišta u Zaragozi, Španjolska.

Predavanje će se održati u četvrtak, 7. siječnja 2016. godine u 11 sati u knjižnici ZESOI. Posebno pozivamo studente preddiplomskog, diplomskog i poslijediplomskog studija. U nastavku slijedi kratak sažetak predavanja i životopis predavača.

Synopsis: How far are we from plugging ourselves directly into the Matrix, instead of using the trusty old mouse and keyboard? In this talk we will look at the evolution of brain-computer interfacing (BCI) research, as well as the state of the art, with a focus on non-invasive BCIs. We will first look into the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ questions - what constitutes a BCI and why we might want to develop BCIs? Then the ‘how’ question - how modern signal processing and machine learning techniques are used to teach computers to recognize patterns of brain activity? And finally, the ‘what’s next’ question - what are the scientific and technological challenges that need to be overcome to bring BCIs into the markets and clinics?

Filip Melinščak obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in information processing from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) at the University of Zagreb, in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Currently he is a PhD candidate at the University of Zaragoza and a Marie Curie research fellow working at the university spin-off company BitBrain Technologies. His research interests are in the areas of neural engineering and cognitive neuroscience, especially in developing non-invasive brain-computer interfaces for detecting cognitive states.
