Odjel za tehniku u medicini i biologiji

Područje interesa Odjela obuhvaća sva područja biomedicinskog inženjerstva kao interdisciplinarnog područja primjene inženjerskih znanja u medicini i biologiji. Rad članova Odjela uključuje primjenu matematičkih metoda, eksperimentalne postupke, razvoj novih tehnologija te praktične kliničke aplikacije. Odjel također provodi obrazovne i profesionalne aktivnosti te suradnju s gospodarstvom.

"Medical applications of microelectromechanical sensors in daily routine of the geriatric population"

koje će održati dr. sc. Tomislav Pozaić, Robert Bosch GmbH, Njemačka u srijedu, 04. travnja 2018. godine u 12:00 sati u dvorani D160 Fakulteta elektrotehnike i računarstva Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Unska 3, Zagreb.

Predavanje je na engleskom jeziku, a predviđeno trajanje s raspravom je 60 minuta. Predavanje je otvoreno za sve zainteresirane, a posebno pozivamo studente.

Abstract

In our aging society, costs for the healthcare are in a constant increase. One of the leading causes for this concerning fact is a fall, where one third of population aged over 65 falls at least once per year. Moderate to severe injuries, social isolation, depression and increased mortality are their inevitable consequences. Recent clinical studies have shown that many of these falls can be avoided if the appropriate measures are applied in the right moment and in the right amount. Timely critical and medically relevant decisions can be made upon objective assessment of one’s physical performance, which can be done in an unobtrusive and cost‑effective way by using a sensor node equipped with microelectromechanical sensors (MEMS). This lecture will cover an application of MEMS for assessment of the risk of falling during daily life activities in the elderly population.

Tomislav Pozaić is working as an algorithm developer for consumer and automotive MEMS at Robert Bosch GmbH in Reutlingen, Germany. His work is focused on implementation of cost‑effective algorithms for accelerometers and gyroscopes both, on the chip and system level.

He did his PhD in Mai 2017 at the Institute for Information Processing Technologies, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany. The work was a close collaboration between Bosch Healthcare Solution GmbH and the Institute. The Thesis, supervised by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Stork, was focused on assessment of the fall risk in elderly population during their normal daily routine by using a wrist‑attached sensor node equipped with inertial measurement unit and environmental sensors.

Tomislav graduated at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, Croatia with Master in Electronic and Computer Engineering in July 2013. His Master and Bachelor Thesis, supervised by prof. dr. sc. Ratko Magjarević, were both closely connected with biomedical engineering, particularly continuous physical activity monitoring. The work was focused on qualitative and quantitative assessment of physical activity in rehabilitation and training with emphasis on chronic disease patients using synchronized sensor approach and signal processing techniques.

Other activities include internship at the Department of Bioengineering, University of Tokyo, Japan, as well as volunteering work at the student organization IAESTE in Zagreb, Croatia. Tomislav is a holder of four patents and first author of four conference and journal papers.
