„Navigating assessments in the GenAI era“
Sažetak predavanja: The widespread use of Generative AI (GenAI) has brought significant shifts to computing education, particularly in how we assess student learning. Traditional closed-book exams often fail to reflect the ways students now engage with content, while take-home assessments risk losing their validity when AI tools can generate plausible answers. In this talk, I present a hybrid assessment model designed to uphold learning assurance while embracing the realities of AI-augmented learning. By combining a closed-book component that focuses on core concepts with an open-book task that allows students to use GenAI tools transparently, the model offers a more authentic and robust approach to assessment. Drawing on examples from large-scale computing units, I examine how thoughtful design can help achieve learning outcomes and maintain academic standards, offering a practical framework for educators navigating the evolving landscape of assessment in the GenAI era.
